The Leather Conservation Centre (LCC) is a charity organisation that was founded in 1978 with the aim to conserve historical leathers and now it also creates a hub for research, education and development.

In 2019 the LCC moved to new premises in Northampton town centre alongside the Museum of Leathercraft. The new studio is equipped with specialist equipment to facilitate most conservation treatments. We have a range of literature and leather conservation materials which are available to purchase on our products page.

The studio space is sizeable meaning that the majority of conservation work can be carried out at the LCC, however we are flexible and happy to carry out conservation work in situ if it cannot be accommodated within the studio.

The LCC carries out practical conservation treatment on objects made wholly or partly of leather or related materials, as well as providing advice and guidance on care and storage.

Alongside the practical conservation work, the LCC works to increase awareness and provide education in all areas of leather conservation and historic leather technology, as well as carrying out research projects to advance knowledge in these areas.

The team at the LCC are happy to discuss any queries and can be reached at info@leatherconservation.org

Supported by

The Worshipful Company of Leathersellers, The Worshipful Company of Saddlers and the National Lottery Fund are very generous supporters of the LCC. Their funding plays a crucial role in the conservation of historic leather objects.

What cannot be measured is the moral support given to the staff at the LCC by being part of the Leathersellers’ “Family” and everyone is proud to be associated with Leathersellers and other livery companies including The Worshipful Companies of Saddlers, Glovers, Cordwainers and Curriers.
